The History of Skandia Township

A short article taken from the Skandia Township Centennial Book:

"Settled in 1870, Skandia Township, Marquette County, was created in December 1892, detached from Chocolay Township. The township embraces T46 and 47N, R23W, and is located on the east central border of the county. In 1893 the decision was approved by Legislative Act of Michigan, page 1421. The first recorded land-owner within the present limits of the township was Peter White, who on August 25, 1862 obtained 39 Acres of land in Sec. 4 ofT45N, R23W, followed by holdings recorded by Edwin Parsons and Charles Ortman."
